The function of the Governing Body and Committees

Full Governing Body  Chair: David Baldock 
The Full Governing Body has a strategic leadership role that includes: 

  • setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction; 
  • holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance, safety and welfare of the school and its pupils and staff; 
  • overseeing the school improvement plan; 
  • review the financial performance of the school to make sure its money is well spent.

Pupils Discipline Committee  Chair: David Baldock (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • consider the circumstances in which a pupil has been excluded and representations made by the parent and the LA as required by the School Standards and Framework Act 1998; 
  • decide whether or not to uphold or reinstate any exclusion which exceeds five days in any one term. 
Performance Management Committee  Chair: David Baldock (Quorum 2) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • set and review the performance targets of the Headteacher; 
  • determine personnel matters in accordance with policy and procedures. 
Personnel and Pupils Committee  Chair: Sue Gollop (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • determine a staffing structure and other staffing matters, recommend to the governing body a performance management policy and a staff pay policy and review staff pay in line with those policies; 
  • consider matters of pupil welfare including safeguarding and make recommendations to the governing body; 
  
Staff Dismissal Committee / Appeals  Chair: David Baldock (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the Staff Dismissal committee is to: 

  • determine matters of staff discipline in accordance with the discipline procedures adopted by the governing body; 
  • determine whether any person employed by the LA to work at the school should cease to be employed at the school. 
Staff Dismissal Appeals  Chair: Sue Gollop (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the Staff Dismissal Appel committee is to: 

  • consider appeals against decisions of the Staff Dismissal Committee”. 
Strategic Development Committee  Chair: David Baldock (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • consider the curriculum at the school in accordance with the national and local requirements, inspection reports and monitor progress; 
  • make recommendations on strategic development via the school improvement plan that will improve pupil achievement and school effectiveness. 
Finance and Resources  Chair: Andrew Dixon (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • determine the school’s annual budget plan, including the staff complement; 
  • plan the school budget in accordance with the priorities in the school improvement plan; 
Health and Safety Committee  Chair: Counsellor Mike Heslop-Mullens (Quorum 3) 
The remit of the committee is to: 

  • ensure Health and Safety compliance and identify any general Health and Safety issues or concerns which may affect school pupils or employees; 
  • audit the school’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
