Literacy skills are vital if young people are to be successful at school and in the wider local, national and international community.
At Bridlington School, Literacy is therefore very important and underpins all learning. Our objective is to improve the literacy skills of all our students at all levels. With parents or carers support, we can aim to equip students with the essential literacy skills to achieve academic success and thereby enable them to succeed in the world of employment. We also have a comprehensive range of intervention strategies to support students who experience difficulties with Literacy.
Reading is an invaluable tool for improving Literacy. Students actively read widely and often in all lessons and, through our Read To Succeed programme, we encourage and support reading for pleasure. All GCSE students study English Language and Literature in order to promote and instil a love of reading.

Just like Literacy skills, good Numeracy skills are essential to success in school and in later life. As a result, Numeracy is equally as high profile as Literacy at Bridlington School. We develop Numeracy skills both within Maths lessons and also within subject areas like Geography, Design Technology and Science. We have a comprehensive range of intervention strategies to support students who experience difficulties with Numeracy.
