Letter from the Local Authority about partial school opening
Letter from Deborah Myers Head of Children and Young People, Education and Schools for East Riding
As well as ensuring that all students participate in a diverse Sports curriculum and achieve a Btec in Sport, there are lots of opportunities for them to take part in sports through participation in sports teams, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the National Sports Leader Awards and the ‘Step into Sport’ programme. Our elite sportsmen and women are rewarded at our annual Sports Personality of the Year awards evening.
Our highly successful Combined Cadet Force provides exciting opportunities for students to participate in Outdoor Adventure Activities including kayaking, sailing, abseiling, rock climbing and camping. It also prepares them very effectively for careers in the uniformed services – click the link to the CCF for more information.
Students have lots of opportunities to ignite their creativity through activities like ceramics, sculpture, photography and film making. Many students learn to play musical instruments and we have several fantastic choirs and an orchestra who regularly perform in concerts in school and in local festivals and theatres. Every year we run a musical theatre production, which takes place at the Bridlington Spa. Drama is also very popular with students and we also have our own Dance Studio. The school has been awarded the Arts Mark in recognition of the quality of our Arts education.
One of the highlights of our school year is our prestigious Arts Evening which is held in the summer term at Sewerby Hall. Our most talented artists and designers exhibit their work in the Orangerie whilst our musicians entertain guests on the terrace.
