Achievement 4 All

A SCHEME aimed at improving the school experience of a group of students was launched last Friday.

Achievement for All (AfA), an initiative being implemented in schools across the country, was kick started with an event for students and their parents to meet staff involved in the scheme.

The launch was held at the Pod, a renovated pavilion building at the school with facilities including a 3D television and table football, which will be used as a means of rewarding students.

A group of 23 year nine and year 10 students are involved in the scheme which works through a mentoring system where each student is assigned a key teacher to work with.

Mr Wilbor, head of physical education at the school, has taken a leading role on the project with head of modern foreign languages Miss Gardiner, and along with around 20 staff at the school will deliver the AfA scheme.

Mr Wilbor said: “The scheme helps learning in the school. The idea of Achievement for All is to remove the barrier that any group of students may have, and helping children that may well have low aspirations in school.

“We are trying to engage the parents and children, it is a bespoke mentoring scheme for the children.

“I think the main aim is to raise aspirations and remove the barriers to learning, also to improve the students’ English and maths, resolve issues with bullying, improve attendance and help them enjoy their time at school.”

Each Friday students and their parents will meet with their key teachers to discuss the progress of the students and the targets set for them.

The programme, which is subsidised by businesses and the Government, is delivered by the charity Achievement for All 3As. For more information on the scheme visit
