All students now on home learning until Friday 15th January.
31st December 2020
Dear Parent / Carers,
Re: The Department for Education announced yesterday that secondary schools must extend the staggered return at the start of the Spring Term and provide online home learning to all students in all year groups from Tuesday 5th January.
The return to school times and dates I issued in my posted letter dated 16th and 18th December are now incorrect.
Late yesterday afternoon, Gavin Williamson the Secretary of State for Education, announced that schools must delay the return of students to school in all year groups including exam year groups. This is in response to the new variant of the Cornavirus and the increase in positive cases amongst secondary school-age children and in young adults.
All learning will be provided online for all students to access home learning from Tuesday 5th January 2021.
Year 13, Year 12, Year 11 and Year 10 students, vulnerable children and children of critical workers will be able to attend school.
All exams will be running as normal and students will attend their exams then return home for online learning. A separate letter will be sent to affected students.
Year 13, 12, 11 and 10 must attend school for their real exams and return home after the exam is finished.
At the moment, all students are expected back in face-to-face education in school w/b Monday 18th January 2021.
We have been informed that all school will receive a delivery of Lateral Flow Test Kits starting from 4th January 2021. The government statement yesterday announced that schools should test all students before returning by 18th January prioritising exams age students. I must share with you that we are required to recruit 8 staff and create a designated test centre in order to achieve this. As educationalists, we are keen to support our Public Health colleagues with this Public Health Mass testing where it is logistically possible. This will be a priority focus for us from 4th January onwards as we want as many students in school as possible. I will of course keep you updated.
We will postpone the roll out of class charts until all students are back in school.
Students who are the children of critical workers (as per the Government’s critical worker list) where suitable alternative childcare cannot be arranged, can return to school on 5th January 2021 in person. Following my contingency planning survey of critical workers, I am confident many can safely learn at home. To release as many staff as possible to focus on supporting home learning for the majority of students we will endeavour to create Year Group “Bubbles” in ICT Rooms for children of critical workers. Students who need to be in school will access their lessons from a computer and therefore be based in the same ICT room with their year group bubble. If you require you are a critical worker and require a place in school for your child please email firstname.lastname@example.org by 12 noon on Friday 1st January 2021.
I appreciate that this change is short notice and may inconvenience you, but I know you will agree with me that it is essential we closely follow the Government guidance regarding COVID-19 in order to safeguard all members of our Bridlington School Family.
Finally, Government information about lateral flow testing in schools is rapidly evolving. I want to reassure you that I will provide details of the arrangements for any testing that is to be carried out (with your consent) as soon as possible. I am expecting some specific guidance as we return in January and as always I will keep you informed as I have any information updates.
I will write again with further information about start back dates and times.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me on email@example.com.
