Cambridge Residential Trip
A group of high achieving Year 12 students from Bridlington School visited King’s College Cambridge. The aim of the trip was not only to motivate and inspire students to apply for Cambridge and Russell Group universities, but also to practise the research and discussion skills needed to succeed both in English and History at A Level.
As well as enjoying accommodation at King’s College, a visit to the ADC theatre to see Made in Dagenham , the obligatory punting on the river and a tour of the college, students had the privilege of working with one of the archivists there. Students were fascinated to be able to view a variety of original documents relating to the poet Rupert Brooke before taking part in challenging activities based on both his poems and the ‘myth’ surrounding this often controversial poet. Peter Monteith, the archivist, praised the meticulous preparation by the girls and their engagement with his tasks.
The students all agreed the trip had been ‘ absolutely amazing’ and had helped them to focus both on their future aspirations and to improve their study skills by seeing both history and poetry come alive
